2024 Tournament Rules

12th Annual Rocky Mountain College Showcase

Robert Vasquez Memorial Tournament

USA Softball Sanctioned 14U, 16U and 18U

TOURNAMENT RULES

This is a showcase/exposure tournament, so rules are a little different and designed to get your players the most exposure possible. They are also designed to allow you to play meaningful games each time out, so college coaches in attendance can view players in game situations.

Check-in: Proof of insurance and team roster required at check-in. Please check-in 30 minutes before your first game.

Rosters: Players submitted on your roster at check-in, and meeting the pick-up player rules for USA Softball are eligible to participate. College players still 18U eligible are allowed to participate. Because it is a showcase, please consider only those college players looking for a new college, i.e. junior college or transfer-eligible.

Line-ups: Bat your line-up with free substitution, or you can choose to use USA Softball standard rules. Batting order integrity must be maintained at all times, with one exception: If a college coach requests to see a player hit/run/pitch/field in a certain situation, please honor that request, after notifying the umpire and opposing coach.

Injury Outs: If a team is playing with 9 players, or using the Designated Player and a girl is injured and unable to play in the field and/or bat, her spot in the batting order will NOT be an automatic out unless her team is then playing with less than 9 players.

Courtesy Runners: Courtesy runners may be used for pitchers and/or catchers provided there is no delay in the game. The courtesy runner must be a player who is either a sub or made the last out in the lineup.

Ejection: Any coach or player ejected from a game shall be required to sit out the next game. Ejections can NOT be appealed. If a team has two parents/spectators ejected during a game, that team will forfeit that game, and the parent(s)/spectator(s) will not be allowed to return during the tournament. Teams and/or fans of teams exhibiting poor sportsmanship may not be allowed in this tournament in the future.

Bracket Play: ALL TEAMS WILL PLAY THREE GAMES ON SUNDAY.

18 Gold Bracket – #1 and #2 seeds from the power pools, #1 seeds from remaining pools

18 Silver Bracket – #3 and #4 seed from power pools, #2 seeds from remaining pools

18 Bronze Bracket – #3 and #4 seeds from remaining pools

16 Gold Bracket - #1 and #2 seeds from all pools

16 Silver Bracket - #3 and #4 seeds from all pools

Pool Play Tiebreakers – We will use the USSSA tiebreaker system.

1. First team listed in pool, and top team of bracket occupy 3rd base dugout, unless a team is playing back-to-back games on the same field.

2. Game times are 1:30.

3. Finish the inning on Saturday. Games may end in a tie.

4. Must be a winner on Sunday. Goes to international tie-breaker rule if tied at the end of time or 7 innings.

5. Run rules are 15/10/6 after 3/4/5.

6. Umpire decisions are final – THIS IS A NO PROTEST TOURNAMENT

7. Please be sure to follow all NCAA contact rules, and be sure to educate your players and parents on those rules as well.

8. No pets allowed.

PLEASE REMEMBER – THIS IS A COLLEGE SHOWCASE.  WE ARE TRYING TO DESIGN IT COMPLETELY AROUND THE INTENT OF PROVIDING SIX GAMES, ALL WITH SOME LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE.  SUNDAY BRACKET PLAY IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EACH TEAM TO PLAY IN A BRACKET WITH TEAMS THAT PERFORMED AT A SIMILAR LEVEL ON SATURDAY.  IT IS NOT A PERFECT SYSTEM.

NOTE – TEAMS WILL RECEIVE WRISTBANDS IDENTIFYING THEIR GRADUATION YEAR AT CHECK-IN.
